The Cyber Career Connection by NortonLifeLock
Wanted: Aspiring Cyber Security Professionals
Cyber security is one of today's most in-demand fields—growing three times faster than other IT jobs1. From health care to financial services, retail to manufacturing and consumer goods—nearly every business around the world is seeking trained professionals who can help protect their organization, data, employees and customers from the ever-growing risk of cyber attacks.
Yet, despite the incredible opportunity, there is a significant shortage of qualified candidates prepared to fill these roles—today there is a gap that is expected to reach a staggering 1.8 million open jobs by 20222.
As the global leader in cyber security, we are proud to play a role in building the workforce of tomorrow. Launched in 2014 in partnership with the Symantec Foundation, the Cyber Career Connection by NortonLifeLock is a collaborative effort that provides a pathway for underrepresented and under-resourced young adults and veterans—many of who have not been exposed to this thriving field—to fill in-demand cyber security jobs and enjoy long-term, meaningful careers.
Cyber Career Connection addresses four key challenges across the workforce pipeline including:
- Excite - We help nonprofits and educators raise awareness of the long-term career opportunities in cyber security.
- Recruit, Train and Certify - We recruit and train underserved populations into the field of cyber security.
- Prepare for Jobs - We place students in cyber security internships and other on-the-job learning opportunities for training in real-world challenges.
- Launch Careers - We connect program graduates to cyber security positions.
With Cyber Career Connection, we are not only addressing the global cyber security workforce gap but also helping to change the trajectory of the tech workforce—specifically for women, minorities and veterans. The program is aligned with NortonLifeLock’s goal to excite, engage and educate one million students in STEM education by 2020 by partnering with global nonprofits with an emphasis on computer science and cyber security.
A Powerful Combination: Classroom + Business Experience
As one of our Cyber Career Connection C3 students shared, "This journey has opened my eyes to the world of cyber security and I am now able take the knowledge I acquired and apply it to real-life situations."
At its core, the Cyber Career Connection curriculum focuses on both technical and soft skills including specialized training in cyber security principles, software and computer programs, methods and tools, as well as business foundations, resume and interview training. Following classroom training, students apply what they have learned in internships and other business settings. Program graduates have opportunities to interview with a network of companies for full time positions and build their long-term careers. To date, many Cyber Career Connection graduates have gone on to full time employment with leading companies such as Salesforce, Microsoft, eBay, Autodesk, TD Ameritrade, Morgan Stanley, Gap, Inc. and more.
Partnering for Success

Working with leading educational development non-profits Year Up and NPower, the Cyber Career Connection is creating a qualified and diverse talent pool to support this fast-growing industry. Graduates leave the program prepared to step into the vacant jobs, succeed in their careers and help solve today's cyber security challenges.
